Disney and X Prize looking for heroes

bighero6Today sees the launch of a new X Prize challenge with a slight difference.  The competition is normally involved in high science and technology, but their latest effort aims to excite young innovators from around the world.  They’ve teamed up with Disney to launch their latest challenge in conjunction with the movie Big Hero 6.

They’re looking for young innovators to offer up ideas on how the world can be improved, with a VIP trip to Tinsel Town offered as bounty for the best suggestions.

The process is a straighforward one.  If you have an idea for how the world can be improved by either science, maths, technology, engineering or the arts, then the organizers want to hear from you.

They want you to create a short 1-3 minute video that explains your idea in the most creative way possible.  Once you’ve proved your parents are ok with your entry, you simply upload your video to the competition website and submit your entry.

The judges from the X Prize will then select 20 finalists, at which point the process is opened up to the crowd to vote on the entry they think is best.  This process will take place from the 15th-19th October 2014.

The panel of judges will also have their say on the finalists, with the top 6 ideas selected to determine the real life Big Hero 6.  Those 6 winners will win a trip to Hollywood to go behind the scenes on the set of Big Hero 6, as well as attending the premiere of the film in Hollywood.

Entry to the competition opens today, so drop by the site if you know a young person, aged between 8 and 17 years of age, that would like to get involved.  You can find out more about the challenge via the video below.
