Dublin City Council have teamed up with Intel and Trinity College Dublin to see what people believe the future of cities should be like.  They’re asking people to submit a YouTube video as part of their Open Innovation 2.0 conference on May 20-21st.  Here’s the blurb about it below.

As a part of Open Innovation 2.0: Sustainable Economy & Society collaboration  Intel Labs Europe, Dublin City Council, Trinity College Dublin and European Commission Open Innovation and Strategy Policy Group are delighted to announce that the 2013 Better Cities competition is now open.

Competition theme

The theme of the competition is how to make our cities more socially and economically sustainable, through use of open data and information technology.  Particular focus should be given to how citizens can engage and contribute to the innovation process.

We want you to create a video that captures your idea. Your entry can capture a spoken idea, presentation, storyboard, demonstration of an application or any other suitable content.

We will shortlist entries that are original, creative, on how well it reflects the theme of the competition, the composition and presentation of the idea and the technical feasibility to implement your idea.

Winners will be selected in 2 categories: University Competition, where winners are selected amongst entries by students of third level institutions, and General Competition, for all other entries.

Winners will be chosen by a panel of independent stakeholders for both the general competition and the university competition. The judges will be supplied with a shortlist of entries chosen by our Open Innovation 2.0 team.

To enter, all you have to do is upload your video to YouTube, and email the competition team.  Make sure you include the following information in your email.

• Full name
• Date of birth
• Nationality
• Contact details (Address and contact number)
• The URL link to YouTube where you have uploaded your piece
• Short Description of your piece (150 words)
• The email must have the subject line ‘OI2 Competition’ or ‘OI2 student competition’
• If entering the student competition, please ensure that you include the name of your educational institution.
• Please also note in the email that you accept the terms and conditions

Entries close at midnight on the 8th May.  It’s not clear from the competition page whether entries will be collated together to view, but that would be a nice way to let people view the entries in one place.  Hopefully that will happen once the competition closes.
