A few months ago I wrote about a new service called Verily. It’s aim is to help organisations verify the accuracy of information posted on social media, especially during emergencies where accurate responses are critical.
The app was developed by the Masdar Institute of Technology and the Qatar Computing Research Institute and has launched recently. Information posted to Twitter is shared on Verily and the community of users would be asked to verify its accuracy. As feedback rolls in, the reputation of the original posters would rise or fall. These scores could then be used as a currency in their own right, so for instance someone with high reputation could have more weight behind their own votes.
As it emerges into the public it will be a fascinating platform to track. You can find out more about the platform in the TEDx talk below by co-founder Patrick Meier.
