Last month I explored some of the reasons why flexible work is still not catching on, at least to the extent our rational thinking suggests it should be. That hasn’t stopped the folks at Top Management Degrees from producing an infographic where they gaze into their crystal ball at the future of the workplace (click for a larger version).
Suffice to say, as with any infographic, it is a rather simplistic look at what is a complex area. After all, I covered some of the things mentioned in the graphic last month and looked at why what are inherently productive activities were not taking off in the workplace.
It’s a theme I touched on in my book, The 8 Step Guide to Building a Social Workplace, because many of these initiatives suffer from environmental barriers in the same way that many social initiatives do. If you want to change behaviours then you need to explore the environment and system within which people work so that it encourages the kind of behaviours you want to see.
