Moley turns to crowdfunding to develop their robot chef

robot-chefEarlier this year I wrote about the BratwustBot, which is a robotic grilling machine capable of churning out a perfectly serviceable hot dog.  Whilst undoubtedly fascinating, the project is something of a gimmick at this stage.

Slightly more advanced is the Spyce Kitchen, which is a robotic chef capable of ensuring the right ingredients are included in just the right amounts.  It can then cook your food at the right temperature, and for the right time, to ensure a beautiful meal comes out the other side.

The project, which was a recent winner of the Lemelson-MIT Student Prize, offers a stove, fridge, dishwasher and chef, all in one automated unit.  Suffice to say however, it is at a very early stage in its development.

Coming to market

Whilst these projects are at a largely experimental stage, Moley Robotics are hoping to bring their own robotic chef to market soon.  They have recently launched a crowdfunding campaign on Seedrs.

As with the Spyce Kitchen, the Moley device promises to cook meals for you from a host of recipes in their global database of dishes.  The machine is capable of learning how to prepare each of them, and can even clean up after itself when it’s done.

The company claim that their robot is capable of faithfully replicating the movements a chef makes when preparing a dish, and therefore can cook to the very highest of standards.  The device consists of a kitchen cabinet, motion capture system and a range of kitchen utensils and appliances.

Literally all you need is to feed it with the correct ingredients and it will do the rest for you.  The prototype for the device was first aired at CES Shanghai in May 2015, where it was lauded by judges and attendees alike.  They are now looking to raise £1 million to bring the device to market.

If you back the project, you’ll have first dibs on purchasing the Moley Kitchen, with the greater your investment, the greater the range of benefits on offer to you.

Founder Mark Oleynik says, ‘We are thrilled to finally bring Moley into the real world by launching our Seedrs campaign. Imagine you are buying a flat and the option is to have a regular kitchen or a robotic kitchen, it is clear which option you would choose. The success of our prototype makes us very excited, the future is very near.
