How Leadership Affects Creativity

An interesting study published in the International Journal of Work Innovation sheds light on the creativity of employees in Pakistan’s private real estate sector. The findings could have important implications for both theoretical and practical aspects of work innovation in this industry and beyond. The researchers provide several recommendations for future research and suggest that similar studies may be valuable in other regions, industries such as information technology, and even in education.

Boosting creativity

The researchers, from the National University of Modern Languages in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, conducted a mediation and moderation analysis to examine the relationship between creativity and leadership in the real estate sector, a crucial industry in the commercial and business world.

The study analyzed the impact of two different leadership styles, inclusive and transformational, on employee creativity. The researchers surveyed 250 employees in the real estate sector, with a response rate of 74%, and found that while inclusive leadership increased employees’ confidence in their own abilities, it had no impact on their creativity. On the other hand, transformational leadership, which often brings new ideas to the workplace, had a positive effect on employee creativity.

The study also revealed two other characteristics of employees in this sector: psychological empowerment was found to play a significant role, but an organizational learning culture had minimal impact.
